Keep enough evidence to make the next piece better: a washed sample, a clear measurement and a note about what the hands actually did.

Brook Meadow is a small knitting notebook based in south London. Its starting point is the basket beside the chair: unfinished cuffs, a few useful lengths of yarn and samples that have been washed more often than the garments they were meant to predict. The pages concentrate on ordinary things that are worth understanding before beginning a larger piece.

A sample is more useful when the instructions for making it remain attached. These notes record needle size, the treatment of an edge and the difference between a fabric just taken off the needles and the same fabric after washing. Results belong to that particular yarn and pair of hands. They are examples to compare with your own work rather than promises of an identical result.

There is no shop, class booking or mailing list here. Materials are described by their behaviour, not promoted by brand. Repairs are welcome, including repairs that remain visible. A jumper that returns to the weekly rotation has done more useful work than a perfect sample left permanently at the bottom of a drawer.
